Porsche GT3 996 + 997 (inc RS) – Road & Track Exhaust Two years in development, the QuickSilver Team have produced the ultimate exhaust system for Porsche’s flagship model, the GT3 and RS.
Working in partnership with two of the most successful and well known specialists in race and track-day Porsche to develop a complete ‘Carrera Cup’ exhaust system for enthusiast customers.
Porsche owners are always concerned with weight at the rear of the car and the mission was to reduce the exhaust system to the minimum weight and volume possible and improve efficiency. The standard exhaust system has five separate exhaust cans (2 x Cats and 3 silencers) – The QuickSilver shrinks these to one compact casing containing integral catalytic converter cores and sufficient silencing to meet emissions and (most) sound requirements.
The requirement:
· More Power + 20bhp - without sacrifices
· Less Weight – to lose almost 30kgs from the rear of the car.
· On 996 models this can be fitted with the MotorSports Carbon/Kevlar rear bumper for even more weight saving
· Ease of fit & no loss of ground clearance. All in a compact volume.
· Great Sound - but to enable compliance with most track-day venues.
· Motorsport Look with twin central exit pipes.
· Appropriate Sound – about 104dB > but down to about 102dB with the ‘Titanium’ cans.
An ambitious project requiring new materials technology, manufacturing methods, component integration and constant testing. Our partner’s racing experience and facilities were able to provide us with the technical input and testing facilities to bring this project to a successful conclusion.
The full QuickSilver Sports system includes:
· Manifolds with equal-length primary pipes of the appropriate bore for maximum efficiency.
· Single rear silencer casing housing a pair of integral 200 cpsi ‘Race’ catalytic converters.
· Provision for fitting of OBD2 exhaust sensors measuring the exhaust gas composition before and after the ‘Cats’ on both cylinder banks.
Throughout the stages of development the system was evaluated both at our partner’s in-house test facilities and on the track > Each time refinements were included in the overall design to create an exhaust appropriate to the Porsche name.
Developed to fit both the 996 and 997 GT3 & RS models (the 996 models will require the MotorSport rear bumper)
Described in ‘GT Porsche’ Magazine October 2006:
‘The system liberates a further 20bhp on the staple of 381bhp as well as well as gains in mid-range
torque that add a subtle layer of muscle to the power delivery’
‘The system’s reduced weight over the back axle plays an important part in making the RS feel so alert
and adjustable at the limit’.
