Carrera Cup GB awards presented
The awards for the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB were presented in front of a capacity audience at the Chesford Grange Hotel on Saturday evening (3 November) when annual prize money totaling almost £60,000 was awarded.In front of nearly 300 team members, sponsors and guests, the major prize winners were James Sutton (overall champion), Nigel Rice (pro-am champion) and Red Line Racing (champion team). Sutton took away a cheque for £15,000 and the keys to a Porsche 911 road car, which will be his to use for a year. Meanwhile, Rice and Simon Leonard from Red Line Racing each collected a cheque for £7000."To come into Carrera Cup and win the title means a lot to me," said Sutton. "I'd love to come back and defend the title, but moving up to the Porsche Supercup is our main focus for 2008." Sutton collected his awards from Geoff Turral, Marketing Director, Porsche Cars GB Limited.Rice confirmed that he is likely to defend his pro-am title, while Leonard also confirmed that Red Line Racing will again field a multi-car Carrera Cup GB team in 2008. "We're Porsche through and through; we just live for it," he said.Other cheques went to Tim Harvey and Steven Kane for finishing second and third overall, while Andy Britnell and Charles Bateman collected awards for second and third in pro-am. Second and third places among the teams went to Motorbase Performance and Team Parker Racing. "We really want to win the team title in 2008," said David Bartrum of Motorbase. "We've been the bridesmaid three times!"The final award was a cheque for £1000, presented to Pete Osborne as the 'most improved driver of the season'. "It's fantastic, but I'm absolutely shocked," said Osborne. "It's been brilliant to race against people like James Sutton and Tim Harvey."A raffle held during the evening raised over £2000 for the BARC race rescue fund.
