Surpasses All Expectations
Portuguese based, Auto Pamplona were full of praise for turbocharging specialists, Turbo Dynamics this week when their turbos transcended expectations and produced outstanding power.
Delighted Nuno Santos had purchased two turbos from Turbo Dynamics for the company’s Seat Ibiza and Seat Leon hoping to give the cars some extra power. However, no one managed to predict quite how much horsepower and torque the Stage 2 - MD479 “Ceramic Coated” GT1852V Mercedes Benz units would actually produce.
Auto Pamplona retro-fitted the MD479 unit using a be-spoke tubular manifold to the Seat Ibiza 1.9 litre 130PD TDI engine, which utilized standard injectors and a re-map. Yet once the exceedingly impressive MD479 hybrid was put under the bonnet, the Ibiza’s peak power became 250.8 BHP at 4,100 RPM – 2.2 bar peak, 1.9 bar stable! The peak torque was 447.5Nm at 3,200 RPM with the more than impressive torque figure of over 400 Nm between 2,500 - 4,000 RPM!
More amazingly still, when fitted to their Seat Leon, a 1.9 litre, 150 TDI with uprated injectors and re-map, the MD479 hybrid gave a jaw-dropping peak power of 278.1 BHP at 4,000 Rpm – 2.2 bar peak, 1.7 bar stable! The peak torque was recorded, to the amazement of on-lookers at 493.8Nm at 3,400 RPM and the torque at 450 Nm from 1,500 RPM!
These figures mean that this Leon is faster, with higher torque and BHP, than, to name but a few, the latest Subaru Impreza, the Porsche Cayenne V6 5-dr wagon and the Audi A4 Saloon, which is due for release in 2008!
Santos said, “We are very happy with this. The cars are fantastic, the power delivery is huge and we are always smashed into the seat!”
Turbo Dynamics were also ecstatic with the results. General Manager, Craig Hodgson commented, “I am delighted with these results. It is very rewarding to hear of the tremendous results produced with TD’s involvement in a project.”
