Law Achieves Honors in the Worldwide Championship for the Porsche Cup

Phoenix resident and Porsche endurance racing specialist, Darren Law, will be traveling to Weissach Germany in December to receive second place honors in the coveted Porsche Cup Championship during the annual Porsche Cup Banquet held at the manufacturer's racing factory. What does it take to achieve such an award? It takes countless hours on track, more than 27 race weekends, in 4 different Porsches, 22 top ten finishes, and a bit of good luck. "This was one of the tightest championships in terms of points. It came down to the final race of a very long season," said Law after the race season finale in Monterey, California. "I'm fortunate to have finished second, but am already looking forward to next year's pursuit for an overall win in the Championship."The Porsche Cup Championship has been in existence since 1970, and is based on an idea of Ferry Porsche himself. Each year Porsche honors the top 15 most successful professional Porsche drivers from around the world. In order to gain points toward the championship, a Porsche driver must compete in a Porsche powered entry on a professional level in a race series recognized by the championship organizers. Drivers may compete in several different sanctioned series including the FIA GT Championship, The American Le Mans Series (ALMS), the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series and Koni Challenge series, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the 24 Hours of Daytona. Darren spent his busy 2007 season racing in no less than three different recognized series across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.  "I was privileged to be able to compete in so many different races and to represent Porsche in the fashion that the manufacturer deserves. I wouldn't be here without the help and contributions of several different principles, teams, and crew members as well as my family, and I am grateful for their support" said Law. "This honor is bittersweet," said Law, following the loss of his friend and the principal team owner of Brumos Racing, Bob Snodgrass. "Bob and I spoke of this award often. It was a goal we shared, and it seemed like a possibility this year. His passing is a great loss not only to our team but our friendship as well. I am sure he's grinning from ear to ear right now." No stranger to the Porsche Cup Championship, Law has placed among the top 15 drivers for many years now, and thought this year was his to receive top honors. With literally a fraction of the overall points between Law and this year's 1st place winner, he has a better idea of what it will take to clench the Championship in 2008. Following in the footsteps of some of the world's best endurance race drivers, Law knows he's in good company.
