Round 1: 10-13 April 2009: Auto Trader Easter Thunderball, Santa Pod Raceway
Round 1 was a tale of two Joostens. Dutch namesakes Robert and Henri Joosten bookended a show containing many elements that make Pro Modified so unpredictable and so interesting. After the now-customary rain had compressed the four-day meet into one and a half days, Robert Joosten qualified on pole with an early contender for run of the year, 6.206sec at 230.29mph, close to his career-best marks in chilly, damp, Sunday night near-darkness. Then he smoked the tyres in Monday's first elimination round and lost.
Henri Joosten, qualified 5th, beat reigning MSA champion Philip Englefield and a shut-off Graham Ellis, then unloaded a fine 6.895/204.25 to defeat stuttering Roger Moore in a rare final match-up between two unsupercharged, nitrous oxide-assisted cars.
