Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy back at Silverstone for only UK round of the FIA GT Championship -

Another  season  of  top  class  motor  sport  gets  underway  at  Silverstone  on  2-3  May  when  the  world’s  premier sports car series - the FIA GT Championship – arrives at the Home of British Motor Racing for the UK’s only round of the 2009 championship.

Lining up on this year’s multi-million pound start grid will be the latest racing models from Ferrari, Corvette, Maserati, Porsche and Nissan, as well as the newly unveiled Saleen S7. As the teams and drivers prepare for the opening round of the season, CRS Racing took time out from their busy schedule to join the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy and Roary the Racing Car,  from the popular children’s television series, for a pre-event photocall at the iconic Northamptonshire circuit.

The CRS Racing team and Roary the Racing Car gear up for Silverstone’s round of the 2009 FIA GT Championship, alongside Big Chris and the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy Roary and his mechanic, Big Chris, swapped Silverhatch for Silverstone and were soon discussing tyres, tactics and the illustrious Tourist Trophy with CRS Racing drivers Chris Niarchos, Andrew Kirkaldy, Rob Bell and Tim Mullen.

The Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy, which has a long and celebrated history, is traditionally held at  Silverstone’s  round  of  the  FIA  GT  Championship.  Previous  winners  include  a  host  of  legendary  drivers, including Roary the Racing Car narrator Sir Stirling Moss, who has won the Tourist Trophy more times than any other driver (seven times in total). Speaking ahead of the Silverstone Supercar weekend, CRS Racing driver Andrew Kirkaldy – aiming for a fourth consecutive pole position at Silverstone’s round of the championship –  commented, “The Silverstone event is always a cracking start to the FIA GT season. We all enjoy it as it’s our home race and we know the circuit so well.  We had a lot of fun with Roary today, although he thinks he would beat our Ferrari around Silverstone. I’m not so sure about that!”

The CRS Racing team and drivers will be back at Silverstone on 2-3 May for the race weekend itself. Roary the Racing Car and Big Chris will also return on Sunday 3 May, providing younger racing fans with an opportunity to meet  them  as  they  wander  around  the  Silverstone  paddock.

Roary  and  Big  Chris  will  also  be  signing autographs from a Roary the Racing Car display area which will keep young families entertained throughout the day. For  slightly  older  fans,  driver  autograph  sessions  and  an  ‘open-to-all’  race  paddock  will  provide  exceptional access to the FIA GT teams.

With  FREE  entry  for  children  aged  15  and  under  (accompanied  by  a  ticket  purchasing  adult),  free  parking, grandstand  seating  included  in  the  price  of  a  general  admission  ticket,  supercar  displays  and  a  fairground where all rides are free of charge, the Silverstone Supercar weekend is a perfect family day out during the May Bank Holiday.
