Sutton rejoins Porsche Carrera Cup

James Sutton, winner of the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB title, returned to the championship at Thruxton over the weekend (25/26 April) and now hopes to complete the season with Red Line Racing.Sutton won the ’07 crown with Red Line and took the opportunity created when Dean Smith elected to return to single-seaters. Although the deal was done very late in the day, meaning that Sutton missed pre-race testing at Thruxton, he was quickly back in the groove and ended the second Thruxton race on the podium, having battled for second place with team mate Tim Harvey. In 2007, Sutton narrowly beat Harvey to the title.Sutton spent 2008 racing in British GTs, but was delighted to get the chance to return to the Carrera Cup. “It feel very natural being back with the team,” he said. “I’ve got a fantastic rapport with everyone at Red Line Racing. It just made sense to do this and I’m very pleased to be where I am.”Although initially a deal for the Thruxton weekend, both Sutton and team boss Simon Leonard expect that they will now contest the rest of the 2009 season together. “If I had a sabbatical year I could fall off the radar. It’s important for me to keep my name out there. It’s my ambition to complete the year now.”
