season, hopefully starting at Rockingham on 2/3 May.
Having been team mates in the 2008 BTCC, Mike and Andrew were keen to share a car in two-driver events and have now concluded a deal to race a new Ginetta G50 in the Britcar GT races that do not clash with Andrew's BTCC programme.
The chance to share a car with his 19-year-old son will be the realisation of another ambition for Mike. "Last year when we were team mates in the BTCC, there was a lot of pressure and stress involved in competing and running the team at that level. I can't say how excited I am to have my son racing alongside me. Obviously, this programme has to fit around Andrew's BTCC commitments. I also think it's good for Andrew to get some sports car experience, as you never know what may come up in the future."
Mike is already busy in the Britcar arena where he shares the Ford Mustang GT4 of Stuart Scott in Britcar Production races. "This new project fits perfectly with running the Mustang and both cars will be prepared by JordanSport.co.uk. But we've still got a lot of work to do on the Mustang after it was caught up in the startline accident at Silverstone. All being well, we'll have both cars at Rockingham."
Jordan senior paid tribute to the assistance he has had from Ginetta in putting the deal together. "Laurence Tomlinson and Richard Dean have been incredibly helpful in getting this sorted out. The first circuit car that we got for Andrew was a G20, in which he learned the tracks. So I've always felt a great affinity for Ginetta." Jordan expects that the G50 will be a competitive proposition in GT class 3 within the Britcar GT Championship.
After Rockingham, the programme includes the evening race at Spa on 27 June, the Castle Combe race on 8/9 August and the Brands Hatch race in November. "Racing at Spa is always a fantastic experience and I'm really looking forward to going back to Castle Combe, where I've had some great races over the years."
However, though they will be team mates, there will still be some fierce competition between the two Jordans. "We might have some slower pit stops, because we'll need to add 20kg of ballast to the car when Andrew gets in to equal things up. I can't have him being quicker than me!"
