Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship
Rounds 2 & 3, Pembrey - 3-4th MayThe Doran family continued its domination of the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship when Pat and son Liam won the second and third rounds in the eight-event series at Pembrey over Bank Holiday weekend. But despite leaving South Wales with both wins, the event was far from smooth for the family. Liam's Sunday event was ended by engine failure on his Fiesta ST ERC, while Pat suffered an engine bay fire in the second qualifying heat. Pat still managed to qualify for the A final in fifth place and having come through the field to take the win and pole for the Superfinal, he then led home ahead of Ollie O'Donovan (London) and 2008 champion Lawrence Gibson (Banbridge).Doran Jnr. was back in the running for Monday's round three and in the Superfinal he got the drop on his rivals at the start. The race was halted in the third lap after a broken camshaft forced Pat Doran to stop his Fiesta and the course marshals decided his stricken car was not in a safe position. Liam led again at the restart, pulling away from O'Donovan to take the win and add to his victory in round one of the championship.Behind the leading pair, Steve Hill (Aylesbury) fought a mighty battle to hold of Gibson to improve on his Sunday finish by one place and earn a place on the podium.Next event: Round four, Lydden Hill, Monday May 25Round 2Superfinal (five laps) 1 Pat Doran (Ford Fiesta ST ERC) 4m41.465s; 2 Ollie O'Donovan (Peugeot 306) +6.2s; 3 Lawrence Gibson (MG Metro 6R4); 4 Steve Hill (Mitusbishi Lancer E9 ERC); 5 David Binks (Mitsubishi Lancer E9 ERC); 6 Andy Grant (Ford Escort RS Cosworth); 7 James Bird (Renault ClioSport V6); 8 Simon Horton (Subaru Impreza).Round 3Superfinal (five laps) 1 Liam Doran 4m41.554s; 2 O'Donovan +3.8s; 3 Hill; 4 Gibson; 5 Grant; 6 Binks; 7 Bird; 8 Allan Tapscott (Vauxhall Corsa).
