Silverstone Classic live on Motors TV this summer! Following on from the tremendous success of last year’s coverage when close to a million viewers tuned in to catch the weekend’s action, Motors TV is proud to announce plans for its 2009 Silverstone Classic coverage.
As in 2008, the event, one of the largest in British motorsport, will be shown LIVE in its entirety over the weekend of July 25/26 with no less than 22 races spread out across 20 hours of TV time.
Both days will be dedicated to historic racing as well as including an exclusive documentary charting the career of Sir Stirling Moss, which is scheduled to air late Saturday afternoon ahead of the World Sports Cars Masters night race.
If picking a highlight amongst the 600+ historic sportscars, single seaters and saloons wasn’t difficult enough, a host of new events including the “Celebration of 50 years of the Mini”, the “Decade of Thunder” for Edwardian machines and an all-Jaguar race promise to add yet more variety to an already packed bill.
A director of the Silverstone Classic, Ken Prichard-Jones, said, “We are concentrating all our efforts on offering the whole family an exciting and entertaining experience throughout each day. Not a minute will pass without something fantastic happening either on the race-track, infield area or at the music concerts, ensuring that everyone will need the entire weekend just to cram in all the sights and sounds of this non-stop event. Blink and you will miss something. Don’t even think of going to the toilet!”
“This year’s racing line-up will be second to none, with plenty of classes covering every automotive era,” added Motors TV's Head of Programming & Acquisitions, Frédéric Viger. “I’m particularly excited at the prospect of the ‘90’s Touring Cars, which will be fighting for The David Leslie Memorial Trophy and will most certainly provide a great show which the late David would have really enjoyed. Amongst others, I believe the Formula Juniors will be a fans’ favourite, and of course the Grand Prix Masters, involving the 1966-78 GP cars, which will be accompanied by the legendary voice of motorsport, Murray Walker!”
Live Coverage from the 2009 Silverstone Classic kicks off on Saturday, July 25th from 9am-9.30pm while Sunday’s coverage runs from 9am-6.30pm (Sky Channel 413 & Virgin Media 545).
