Jordan stars in Britcar GT at Castle Combe

Andrew Jordan was one of the stars of the race in the 90-minute Britcar GT race at Castle Combe on Sunday (9 August). Racing the Jordansport.co.uk Ginetta G50, Andrew raced ahead of many more powerful cars as he ran as high as fourth overall and dominated his class before the car was halted by suspected fuel pump failure. The Pirtek-backed BTCC ace was having a weekend away from touring car racing to share the Ginetta with his father Mike, while the team was also fielding the Cambridge Business Travel Ford Mustang, shared by Mike and Steve Wood. With 34 cars on the track, qualifying was very busy but Andrew did a great job in the Ginetta to take class pole and a mighty sixth overall, lapping faster than a gaggle of Porsche 997 GT3 Cup cars and Ferrari GT3s. "That was a mega performance," said Mike. "Andrew is really showing his class in sports cars."Meanwhile, Mike planted the Mustang fourth fastest in class, so the chances of a double podium for the team were good. After a very busy grid walkabout, when a lot of the attention was focussed on Andrew, the 90-minute race got underway with Andrew driving first in the Ginetta. The plan was for Mike to do 36 minutes in the Mustang before handing over to Steve, while Andrew would bring the Ginetta in after 48 minutes for Mike to take the car to the finish."Andrew made a stunning start and ran as high as fourth overall," said Mike. The GT4 specification Ginetta ran ahead of GT2 and GT3 Ferraris and had a strong seven-second class lead when the engine died, thought to be the result of a fuel pump failure. It was a sad end to a great drive, during which Andrew humbled many faster and more powerful cars. However, the team still has cause to celebrate as a strong run for the Mustang netted third in class and sent Mike and Steve to the podium.Andrew will be back in the thick of the BTCC action this weekend (15/16 August) at Knockhill (Fife).
