Carlos Huertas continued his progress in the 2009 Cooper Tires British F3 Series today, with a strong performance around Silverstone ahead of rounds 15 and 16 of the season.
Despite being the youngest driver in the field, Huertas continues to move up the time sheets and finished the day fourth quickest in testing.
Team mate Daisuke Nakajima confirmed the pace of the Raikkonen Robertson car with the sixth quickest time, while Kevin Cheng continued his learning experience in the championship, completing 54 laps in testing.
Speaking about practice, Huertas said, “I had a good car from the start, but I seemed to keep getting caught in traffic on my quick laps and I don’t think we really showed our true pace. We made a few changes in the second session which improved the car and then we made a few more just before the end, and I think I had about two laps with the new changes, but the car felt good. I really like Silverstone, its one of my favourite tracks. I’m feeling confident for some good results this weekend.”
Team principal Anthony Hieatt added, “Practice sessions are about finding the right set up and perfecting the car before qualifying and I think we succeeded in doing that today. Carlos is growing in confidence and is making progress with every race, and he was happy with the pace of his car today. Daisuke was also strong and I think we’re in good shape for a strong result in qualifying tomorrow.”
The Raikkonen Robertson racers will next be on track for qualifying for round 15 on Saturday morning at 11.50 local time, followed by qualifying for round 16 at 14.55.
