MSA British Cadet Kart Championship

Round 6 & 7: Genk, Belgium – 15/16 August

Formula Kart Stars made its annual double header visit to the fantastic facility of Genk in Belgium, where Adam MacKay came out as the Saturday winner after one of the most thrilling races of the weekend.  As karts scattered around the exit of the first turn, Adam MacKay dived into the lead from his grid five start and broke away from Ricky Collard after Alex Gill fell to fifth.  Sam Vanderpump came to the front of the second place train and towed them onto MacKay, hanging him out to dry and demoting him to fifth.  He fought back to the front, enjoying a last lap break when Vanderpump had his hands full with the attack behind. Ross Gunn lucked into third on the last corner, explaining he had caught the group just as Collard was defending from Gill, letting him nip past both.

Again MacKay had the break at the start of Sunday’s race, until Max Vaughan and Gill narrowed it down, demoting MacKay to third, from where he tried to keep pushing the group clear of the rest of the pack.  But Graham, having fallen back at the start, had the pace to catch them despite not having a partner to help him along.  He pulled off the most amazing move into turn one, taking all three at once for a lead he kept until the flag.

The results from Sunday’s round 7 are provisional pending further examination of engine components by an MSA Technical Commissioner.
