Second on Nurburgring LMS Grid for Team Modena

The Team Modena Ferrari 430 GT lines up second on the LM GT2 grid for today’s 1000km race at the Nurburging circuit in Germany – Antonio Garcia in the car for qualifying and missing out on pole position by just a tenth of a second. The team will line-up 27th overall on the 38-car gird, with driving regulars Antonio and Leo Mansell joined by Toni Vilander for this meeting.

“We are very pleased,” said Team Principal Graham Schultz, “the car suits a hot track and Antonio did his normal thing for us and in three flying laps just misses out on pole. We should make a good start to the race – I expect to be leading very quickly.”

The Ferrari was wheeled out of the garage in to the pit lane with nine and half minutes of the 20-minute session gone, and Antonio roared into action at the half way point. His first flying lap was good enough for sixth quickest, then his second was right on the pace and remaining and saw the team second in LM GT2 category.

“We were really focussed on the race in practice and running old tyres,” said Antonio, “so I was not too sure what would happen on new tyres in qualifying. I went as quick as I could, and on my first lap the tyres were good and the time was there. Then I just put together a clean lap and it was there, I was maybe sideways more than I wanted a couple of times, but I was really pushing hard. I wanted to take our first pole in GT, but we missed out by a tenth.”

Today’s race is scheduled to start at 12.30pm local time, with the teams having a final 20-minute warm-up session at 8.30am .
