MSA British Kart Championship

Round 5: Nutts Corner,

Ulster Kart Club pulled out all the stops to make the MSA British Kart Championship’s first visit since 2000 a very memorable occasion, including the local Antrim Council hosting a civic reception for the drivers.  But even they could not control the weather and when the rain became heavier on Sunday afternoon it led to the cancellation of the second points-scoring finals.  Many drivers’ wet tyres were seriously degraded in any case due to the drying track during the first final, which had witnessed a maiden win by Elliot Burton.

Robert Foster-Jones had set off in the lead, but as his tyres faded, so did his positions, as he dropped to fifth.  Burton took over the front on the sixth lap, and was never headed, with a perfect set up for the conditions, and pulling five seconds over Richard Bradley.  Lee Bell gave up after only five laps.  Ben Cooper worked his way up to third, whilst Jonathan Walker recovered fourth place with a late charge giving him fastest lap.  Reigning British Champion Mark Litchfield could do no better than sixth, coming from the back after failing to start a heat.
