Round 13: Colerne Airfield, Bristol Motor Club & Bristol Pegasus Motor Club, August 31st
Nick Algar nearly blotted his copybook with a spin on his second class run. It meant he only qualified second fastest but from this position he hammered home his superiority with two stunning Top 12 Runs to take the victory and also seal the 2009 Championship title.
Steve Broughton emerged as his closest challenger on the day taking second place in his supercharged two-litre OMS. Local driver Kevin Lealan was delighted with third in the run-off and second two-litre home. He has had an up and down season but is striking a rich vein of form just as the championship season is drawing to a close.
Terry Holmes slipped down to fourth after qualifying fastest despite a grassy moment at the innocuous Turn 7. Holmes’ co-driver, Graham Porrett, had his best finish in a long time placing fifth a handful of tenths adrift of Holmes. Jonathan Toulmin took sixth in his 1100cc Marengo before jetting off on holiday. Steve Miles continued to keep the points rolling in with his 10th event on the trot in the run-off. Making his Top 12 debut was veteran Bill Gouldthorpe who, after missing a hatful of events mid-season, is ending the season on a high.
