MCL Motorhomes MSA British Hillclimb Championship Rounds 29 & 30: Gurston Down, nr Salisbury, August 29/30
Scott Moran was crowned the 2009 MSA British Hillclimb Champion, despite a low score of five points on the day. With drizzle through to light rain all day Trevor Willis took a spin in round 29 qualification to put Moran at Championship Point. Scott failed to take advantage, believing Willis’ failure had handed him the title and he relaxed too much, failing to qualify himself. This allowed veteran Rob Turnbull to take the round 29 win – only his third ever – five years after his last and 17 years since his first!
Later on Scott took a safe qualification run for round 30 and, despite Willis taking an inspired win in the increasingly heavy rain, Moran’s sixth place in the run-off was enough to wrap up the title.
