Round 6 – EVENTSIGNS MEWLA RALLY (30th August)
Reigning champions David Kynaston & Andy Russell returned to their winning ways on the penultimate round of this year’s series, the Eventsigns Mewla Rally, by taking maximum points in their Audi A3 Quattro.
Already confirmed as champion driver, Melvyn Evans was leading the event, held on the Epynt Military Ranges, when his Subaru Impreza WRC developed engine trouble with two stages to go. Although co-driver Sean Mullally leads his category, he could still be overtaken for the title by Alun Cook who, partnering David Mann in another Impreza, also retired from the event.
Scotsman Roger Donnan put in another strong drive in his Ford Puma S1600 to move into 2nd place in the overall Championship points table, ahead of Pete Hughes (Ford Escort) and Mann. The rally was won by Peter Lloyd/Graham Handley in their Impreza WRC – run by Melvyn Evans Motorsport!
The final round of the Richard Egger Insurance MSA Asphalt Rally Championship is the Cheviot National Rally on Sunday 25th October.
