Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship Round 5: Lydden Hill, 31 August

Pat Doran won the fifth round of the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill this weekend.

Kevin Procter started the Superfinal from pole position having earlier won the Supercar A final in his Ford Focus ST ERC, but it was Liam Doran who led the race away. Doran Junior’s run lasted only until the first corner where his Ford Fiesta ST ERC suffered a broken driveshaft and snapped into a spin in front of the pack. Fortunately everyone else avoided the spinning car and it was Supercar newcomer Andy Scott who grabbed the lead in his Peugeot 306 (previously raced by Ollie O’Donovan).

Pat Doran surged past Scott on the exit of the Devil’s Elbow mid-way through the first lap and then controlled the race perfectly to take the win. Procter passed Scott in the third lap but was slowed in the last lap when his Focus suffered a puncture to the left front tyre.

Steve Hill meanwhile had worked his way up from fourth to third by passing Scott and homed in on Procter, making a pass in the last corner to snatch second place.

The result leaves Pat Doran and Hill sharing the lead of the championship after five of the eight events. There is also a tie for third place in the points where leading two-wheel drive competitor James Bird (fifth at Lydden) is now equal with Liam Doran.
