Team Rosberg aims to attack in the FIA GT3 Championship
Team Rosberg starts the second half of the FIA GT3 European Championship season on the Portuguese Algarve coast with two Audi R8 LMS in promising positions. On 12 and 13 September regular drivers Nicolas Armindo from France and César Campaniço from Portugal aim to close up on the championship leaders. Only four points separate the duo from Thomas Accary/Julien Rodrigues who currently lead the overall standings.Twenty-seven year old Nicolas Armindo and his twenty-nine year old team mate César Campaniço amassed a solid points basis in the European Championship with three podium positions in the first three race weekends. Second place more recently in Oschersleben, where the team was unlucky to miss victory due to the manoeuvres of several opponents, confirms the steadily improving form curve. "This is why our target is clear,” says Team Boss Arno Zensen. "We aim to increase our performance again to move further up the table. And as before the first FIA GT3 European Championship race victory for Audi is still up for grabs.” Nicolas Armindo confirms: "The entire team is very determined and wants to claim the first win in the European Championship. I’m absolutely delighted to be competing in the Audi R8 for this motivated team. I think that César and I could have a chance of winning in the Algarve. We’ll do our utmost for this.” Campaniço also looks expectantly towards the event: "It is my home race. I want to benefit from my circuit knowledge, as I raced a touring car there last year and competed in a race in a GT2 sportscar in August. The circuit rewards cars with a well-balanced chassis, which is a strength of the Audi R8 LMS.”Jiří Navrátil drives the second Team Rosberg Audi R8 LMS together with a new team mate. Oliver Mayer will complete the second half of the 2009 season for Team Rosberg alongside his Czech co-driver in the FIA GT3 European Championship. "This is a great chance for me,” says the delighted businessman from Ingolstadt who previously raced for Team Rosberg in the ADAC GT Masters. "I’m very interested to see how I perform on my debut in this series and around the Algarve track.”As picturesquely located as the track may be, the fourth FIA GT3 European Championship race weekend represents the greatest logistical effort of the year for the team. Almost exactly 2,500 kilometres lie between Neustadt an der Weinstraße and the entirely new track which was only built last year. The Team Rosberg trucks and trailers set off already on Monday morning at 4.00 a.m. to reach the south-west most tip of Europe after three days drive. After practice and qualifying around the 4.7 kilometre track the teams will, as usual, complete two one-hour races including mandatory pit stops and driver changes. The schedule at PortimãoSaturday, 12 September: 09:00–10:00 free practice 1; 11:40–12:40 free practice 2; 16:15–17:05 qualifying; Sunday, 13 September: 10:30–11:30 race 1; 15:00–16:00 race 2.
