Colleges Carnival Collaboration at Castle Combe

Following it's first championship title with its driver, Ben Norton, who has won the Castle Combe Circuit's Formula Ford 1600 Championship, the College has announced it is to back the circuit's Formula Ford Carnival.

The event rounds off the year at the Castle Combe Circuit on Saturday October 3 and attracts the cream of the country's FF1600 pilots to compete in a knock out series of heats to find the top driver.

The Wiltshire College's Motorsport facility is based at the circuit and in only its third full year, developed and ran an Australian Spectrum chassis for Ben Norton, who tied up his championship title with one round still left to run.

Haydn Earle, Commercial Director of the College said, "We are keen to work with the circuit to attract investment to Wiltshire. There is a thriving UK motor sport industry which is well represented in the South West and our backing of this event will help to increase awareness, both locally and nationally. We will also be using the event to promote our Employer Response Team, which provides training and business solutions to employers".

He added," We are also looking to promote our 1 and 2 day workshops for business here at the college. This includes topics such as presentation skills, securing the job you want, motivating your team and communications. Our new weekend courses are also likely to appeal to some of the wide cross section of individuals who are typically present at such a high profile event, as business owners are often involved with race teams, many racing themselves."

Norton summed up the remarkable achievement of the college students after securing his title at the last meeting on Bank Holiday Monday. He said, "I'm over the moon and so pleased with the way everyone in the team at Wiltshire College has worked towards this. When you think kids straight out of school have been learning their trade by preparing this car and we end up winning, it's made me choke up."

The UK has arguably the most important and successful motor sport industry in the world, much of it stemming from its domination of Formula 1. The college is part of a nationwide trend where youngsters see a motor sport qualification as a viable and exciting career proposition.

As an added bonus, every student of the Wiltshire college, regardless of what course they are studying and even those attending night school classes, will be able to apply for two free tickets to the event!
