BARC great finale to Summer race programme

GREAT FINALE TO ROCKINGHAM’S SUMMER OF BRITISH CLUB RACING

WITH the penultimate round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship just ten days away, the BARC race meeting provided the perfect appetiser to Rockingham’s flagship event on September 20

More than 1500 motor racing fans were able to see where the BTCC all started with Classic Saloons, Classic Modified Saloons and Post Historic Touring Cars providing some of the best action at the Northamptonshire circuit.

It was also a very good weekend for Kieren Clark in the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship and Pickup Truck racer Pete Stevens who were both crowned champions after two dramatic races.

Clarke, who has dominated the single-seater series all season, wrapped up the title with two rounds left to earn Apotex Scorpio Motorsport their second consecutive driver championship, after edging out nearest rival Reon Motorsport’s Dino Zamparelli.

Stevens won his maiden 2009 Pickup Truck Oval Championship after pipping Phil White to the chequered flag. The pair started the final race of the series on the same points, knowing whoever came home first would win the title.

The entertainment wasn’t confined to the track and there was plenty for all the family to enjoy, with free access to pits and paddock, face painters, temporary tattooist and the chance to drive the International Super Sports Car on one of the Rockingham simulators.

Rockingham Director Charlotte Orton, said: “The BARC race meeting always provides a wonderful weekend of motor racing, but with a number of title races being decided this was a great finale to our summer of British club racing.”

The next race meeting at Rockingham is the BTCC over the weekend of September 19/20. Spectators can save up to 20 per cent on adult admission prices by booking in advance from rockingham.co.uk/events.
