Parish joins Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Rockingham

Steve Parish is the latest driver to confirm plans to race in the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB, starting at Rockingham this weekend (19/20 September) and racing with Motorbase Performance.Parish (44), not to be confused with the motorbike commentator of the same name, has worked with the Motorbase team to prepare for the challenge of the Carrera Cup and acquire the necessary National A race licence."It's 12 months exactly since I started," explained London-based Parish. "Before that I'd only done some karting. I've done plenty of laps in the Porsche now and we tested at Rockingham last week. That went well." Parish will race in the pro-am2 category and he has realistic aims for his first weekend at this level. "The aims aren't too extravagant and we're not expecting too much. It is a massive step up."The Motorbase squad has been working with Parish to build his experience and complete sufficient races to upgrade his licence. "We've been working with Steve since last September," said team boss David Bartrum. "He's been working hard through the summer and he's a very determined driver. He ran strongly in the test last week."If all goes to plan, Parish will use the final two weekends of the 2009 season as a lead-in to a full Carrera Cup programme in 2010. "The idea is to see how we go and then do a full season next year," he said. "It just depends how it goes and how I feel."
