BIRMINGHAM'S long-term future remains in the balance after the city council deferred the planning application for the continuation of speedway.The Brummies are expected to be handed a one-year extension in October, with further noise monitoring to take place ahead of another hearing in 2010.Owner Tony Mole said: "This decision is totally inequitable and bitterly disappointing. We have done everything to comply with the planning guidelines."

FORMER winner Andre Compton has been handed a late call-up to the PremierLeague Riders' Championship at his old home track Sheffield.Compton's Workington team-mate Kevin Doolan has been ruled out due to injury, and Adrian Rymel is unavailable for the event a week on Sunday.Comets boss Ian Thomas said: "The fact that Andre is a former Sheffield rider who goes well around Owlerton will be an added attraction."
