No luck for Team Rosberg in the ADAC GT Masters

at the Sachsenring   The French-Portuguese driver duo of Nicolas Armindo and César Campanico in the Audi R8 LMS collected four points for Team Rosberg after finishing fifth at the Sachsenring. However, two retirements in the eleventh and twelfth races of the season prevented a better result in Germany’s leading sportscar league. "We prepared ourselves very well this week following the disappointing FIA GT3 Championship weekend on the Algarve,” reported Team Manager Peter Reinisch. "We had the opportunity to check the cars completely at the Audi factory. Both Audi R8 LMS ran perfectly at the Sachsenring afterwards, although we had hoped to see a little more qualifying speed with Campanico and Armindo in car number 16.” Starting from fourth on the grid for the opening race Nicolas Armindo and César Campanico battled with the leaders before finishing the race fifteen seconds behind in fifth place. "Nicolas held his ground exceptionally well, César put in a strong stint to the flag and defended impressively against the Ascari. Unfortunately, however, fifth position is too little,” said Reinisch. In the second race the duo, which has scored three podium results during the season, started the race from fifth on the grid. César Campanico was running third approaching the pit stop. On the final lap before the scheduled pit stop and driver change he was pushed into a spin by a Corvette, the Ascari following hit the right-rear wheel and, in doing so, damaged the suspension. Campanico returned to the pits and had to retire early from the race. "That was a shame because our speed was good and the tactics were right,” explained Team Manager Reinisch. "Everything had clicked into place, a podium finish would have been possible. Unfortunately, Lady Luck deserted us on this occasion at the Sachsenring.” The race weekend at the Sachsenring also ended early for the Brazilian-Japanese pairing of Paolo Bonifacio and Sakon Yamamoto in the number fifteen Audi R8 LMS. Bonifacio, who started the first race from 14th, had to retire the car in the first lap after an accident. "They were unable to compete in the second race because the car was too heavily damaged,” said Peter Reinisch. With 47 points apiece Armindo and Campanico are eighth and ninth in the ADAC GT Masters Drivers’ Championship going into the final race-weekend. They trail championship leader Christian Abt (also Audi R8 LMS) by 23 points.Team Rosberg contests the final ADAC GT Masters 2009 race weekend in four weeks on 17/18 October at Oschersleben.
