Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series

Season Finale Set For Nail-Biting Finish

After yet another thrilling race weekend at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series travels to France on 2-4 October for the last race weekend of its inaugural season and both drivers' titles are yet to be decided.

After scoring two wins in Spain, Reiter Engineering's Peter Kox and Marc A. Hayek are only 19 points behind current leaders Fabio Babini and Claudio Rossetto. The circuit of Paul Ricard will play host to rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the world's fastest one-make series. During the season, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo has welcomed many drivers to compete behind-the-wheel of the Super Trofeo race cars, a derivate of the road-going Gallardo LP 560-4. Competitors at Barcelona will include Andrea Invernizzi and Mirko Venturi, who will debut in the series with Italian team Puresport.

Among the other contestants are the only Pro-Am pairing, brothers Herve and Cedric Leimer, whose link to the Italian marque is much deeper than just a love for cars. Herve and Cedric's father, René Leimer, purchased 49 per cent of Automobili Lamborghini from founder Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1974. Now the brothers share the drive of the #63 Autovitesse entry, and are joint seventh in the Pro-Am drivers' standings.

"It is great for us to take part in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series," said Herve. "The format of the series suits us perfectly, because as non-professional drivers we have the opportunity to learn from those with more experience. It took us time to be confident with the car and the different tracks, but the series is great fun."

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo features the Lamborghini Super Trofeo: a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4. The Super Trofeo is equipped with a reworked chassis and a power output of 419 kW (570 hp) from its V10, 'Iniezione Diretta Stratificata' engine.

The race car features Lamborghini's permanent four-wheel drive, making the Super Trofeo the only one-make, all-wheel-drive motorsport series.  Formed in 1735, luxury Swiss watchmaker Blancpain is the series' title sponsor. Its President and CEO, Marc A. Hayek, takes the wheel of car #24 together with Peter Kox.

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo runs over six European race weekends, alongside other prestigious series such as the FIA GT Championship, DTM and the British F3 and GT Championships. Either one or two drivers per car can register for the series; each race weekend comprises free practice, qualifying session, and three 40-minute races.
