Double victory for De Dycker in Belgium

Teka Suzuki World MX1's Ken De Dycker enacted a dominant performance at Pierreux for the final round of the United Telecom Trophy Belgian Motocross Championship and won two of three motos to confirm second place in the 2009 series.

The final podium of the domestic campaign saw Steve Ramon take third position for another double rostrum appearance with the works RM-Z450s.

Across the sandy terrain, De Dycker, a double Grand Prix winner in 2009, was in peerless form as he still stood a mathematical chance of seizing the title from Clement Desalle. The Belgian was able to forge a relatively comprehensive 1-1-2 scorecard but the presence of his countryman in the leading group meant that the title eluded the 25 year old who was making his last outing for the Belgian team.

"This was a good way to end the season and improve my feelings about this year which has been pretty up and down," he said. "The races were pretty easy, the track was graded and got better throughout the day but I could keep the others behind me. All I could do was win and if something happened to Desalle then the title would have been a bonus. I will go to Las Vegas now and watch the U.S. Open and then have a small holiday."

Ramon missed at least two rounds of the championship through injury but managed to win two motos in total and took the final chequered flag on Belgian soil. The former champion took fourth place in the first two sprints and ends the season with fifth spot in the standings. "It was a pretty good day," he remarked. "My starts weren't so great in the first two motos and I pushed hard to come through but there were some fast riders at this final meeting and it was not so easy to make up ground. In the final Heat I started second and once I got into the lead I could pull away comfortably. My season is not over yet and I hope for a good result next weekend in Italy."

2007 MX1 World Champion Ramon will be one of three riders representing Team Belgium at the 63rd Motocross of Nations which is taking place at Franciacorta in Italy this weekend.
