Huff on WTCC pole in chaotic Macau qualifying

Menu (9th) And Larini (12th), Victims Of The Many Incidents And Yellow Flags On The Track

Rob Huff emerged fastest man of the day after a chaotic qualifying in Macau, giving the Cruze its third pole of the season.

The Brit, who had also set the fastest time in Free Practice 2 earlier in the day, managed to keep cool in very difficult circumstances and will have the advantage to start ahead of the field in race 1.

The other two Cruzes were not that lucky: Alain Menu (9th in Q1) could not set a time on his first timed lap of Q2 as he got caught in an accident with Muller and Tarquini caused by Muller loosing control of his car due to oil on the track, while Nicola Larini finished 12th in Q1 and did not make it through to Q2 as he had to slow due to yellow flags.

It was a day of typical “Macau madness”, with a number of crashes and incidents, resulting in many red flags and a lengthy delay to the original schedule.

The day ended with three drivers, James Thompson, Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller, taken to hospital for checks, but luckily all have been released.
