Australia Le Mans 24 Hours winner to take on Homebush

When the new Homebush street circuit comes to life next week, so too will MINI Challenge when it welcomes current Le Mans 24 Hours and American Le Mans Series champion David Brabham to the starting grid.

In a landmark final round David Brabham, one of Australia’s most successful racing drivers will take the opportunity to fly in from his UK base to take on the local talent in the hotly contested MINI Challenge series.

Hailing from arguably one of the most famous motorsport families in the world, David is the youngest son of three-times F1 World Champion, Sir Jack Brabham, and has a highly decorated list of racing accolades, littered throughout his 26 year racing career.

“I don’t get back to Australia that much these days, so I was delighted to be asked by MINI Australia to come to the Homebush event and drive a MINI John Cooper Works.  I get to come back home, drive a MINI around a new street circuit, bring my family over from the UK and help celebrate my Dad’s 50th anniversary, so Christmas has come early.  I must thank MINI Australia and Toleman Motorsport for inviting me, I can’t wait.”

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of David’s father, Sir Jack Brabham being crowned Australia’s first F1 World Champion and fittingly David will be back racing in Australia to mark the occasion.  In fact, Sir Jack Brabham’s ran and raced the works Cooper team in the prime of his career.

Racing the go-kart like MINI John Cooper Works Challenge vehicles at the new Homebush street circuit is sure to provide a fast paced and action packed weekend of MINI Challenge to close the season.

“David will no doubt offer another dynamic to MINI Challenge at Homebush and considering he comes armed with international race experience of the highest calibre, it will be a great opportunity for all drivers to put their skills to the test.  Maybe he can take the Uber-Star car to an historic victory?” said National Manager MINI, Justin Hocevar.

The final round of the Pizza Capers MINI Challenge series will cap off another fantastic year of racing in the MINI stable with the drivers and teams already looking forward to an action packed calendar in 2010, commencing in Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 followed by the Australian F1 Grand Prix in March.

The current Pizza Capers MINI Challenge series points see Paul Stokell leading the charge followed by Chris Alajajian, Scott Bargwanna, Grant Denyer and Nathan Caratti, with the series winner to be determined after the Homebush round.
