Turbo Dynamics powers 200mph Toyota Celica

Second 200+ MPH Car by Fensport Performance

On 21st November, Turbo Dynamics (TD) Dealer, Fensport Performance got ‘Double Membership’ in the exclusive 200+ MPH Club when the Fensport Celica became the company’s second car to reach a top speed of over 200 MPH.

The 700 BHP Toyota Celica, modified by Fensport and boasting a Turbo Dynamics’ MD355 blueprinted turbocharger, was driven by experienced Time Attack competitor: Adrian Smith at Woodbridge Airfield near Ipswich.

On Adrian’s first exploratory run, which was to check braking distances, the nifty car recorded 196.9 MPH. Then, after everything had checked out OK, Adrian set off on the second run, but this time without the rear spoiler. However, the run had to be aborted at 199 MPH due to a crosswind catching the car and making the rear end unstable.

Then came the third and final run which, in Adrian’s words, “Started fine. I got wheel spin on the slippery start in the first three gears, but once in 4th the car settled nicely… At around 180 MPH a crosswind again started to move the car off-line. However, I kept my foot in and thankfully the car stayed straight and the wind subdued.

“I checked the speed and it was 201, then 202! I was thinking ‘Yes it is going to do 205/206,’ but then there was a tiny misfire and the speed dropped to 201 again. By then it was time to brake. I had done 202.22 MPH, what an amazing feeling.” The ‘misfire’ was later found to be the 8,300 rpm rev limit!

Making Fensport’s achievement more astonishing still, the 202.22 MPH top speed was achieved from a standing start in just 1.1 miles.
