THE WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP ON MOTORS TV!The WRC will benefit from extra special coverage on the High Speed Television channel when the 2010 season begins this February with Rally Sweden. The only snow event of the year sees cars reaching speeds of 200km/hour on the white stuff while the added danger of ice is never far away. It makes for an absolutely fantastic spectacle.
For its first race as official broadcaster, Motors TV is gearing up for the WRC. For the main contenders, the opening event is the first important battle of what promises to be a very exciting season: Sébastien Loeb is looking for a seventh world title to add to his incredible CV and to rewrite the record books in the process! But the Citroen driver and his French team know all too well that the threat from Ford and Mikko Hirvonen is increasing. The Finnish driver missed out on the title to Loeb by the narrowest of margins in 2009 and their duel is set to intensify this season. Both drivers will also have to contend with their own quick team mates: Dani Sordo at Citroen and Jari-Matti Latvala at Ford.
But that’s not all! Two motorsport superstars will also be competing in Rally Sweden: Kimi Räikkönen, the 2007 Formula One World Champion, flew the nest at Ferrari this winter and has landed in the WRC. He will contest the entire 2010 season, barring the New Zealand round, with the Citroen Junior Team, where he will join Frenchman and 2008 Junior World Rally Champion Sébastien Ogier. Kimi’s arrival marks a piece of history for the championship, as a former F1 World Champion has never before made the direct switch to the WRC....
Meanwhile, another Finn, Marcus Grönholm, is back! The 2000 and 2002 WRC champion, with 30 category wins under his belt, comes out of retirement to drive a Ford Focus in Sweden, a rally which he has already won five times in the past....
Sébastien Loeb, Marcus Grönholm, Petter Solberg (WRC champion in 2003), and Kimi Räikkönen: four World Champions for the opening round!

The 2010 edition is sadly marked by the absence of the man who would have been the favourite for victory: Timoteï Potisek, who had just been signed by Yamaha and was set to follow in the footsteps of the event win record holder Arnaud Demeester, was tragically killed this winter while testing. The news brought huge sadness which profoundly touched the world of motorbike racing and, without doubt, respect will be paid to the man throughout the weekend.
