Reigning Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup Champion team Total Control Racing is delighted to confirm multiple race winner Carl Breeze will return to the squad for the 2010 championship alongside Danish driver Joachim Ritter.
The pairing, which helped TCR storm to the 2009 team’s title during its maiden season of G50 racing, affords Lee Brookes’ Wednesbury-based squad fantastic continuity for the new campaign in which it plans to challenge for the driver’s championship as well as retaining the team crown.
“It’s tremendous news for us to welcome back Carl and Joachim for the coming season, we had a great first year in G50 Cup and we’re planning for 2010 to be even stronger”, said Brookes, “It was a dream result for us to win the team championship at our first attempt but this year we hope to go one better by retaining that title and securing the driver’s crown too.”
Kings Lynn-based Breeze is one of the most established names in British saloon car racing although his career first took off in single-seaters, culminating with title success in Formula Renault UK in 2001. Switching to the world of touring cars the following year, he remained in the BTCC for three seasons before moving into the now defunct SEAT Cupra Championship.
In 2009, Breeze joined TCR for his first season in the Ginetta G50 Cup and started the year superbly with four wins from the first six rounds. The 30-year-old’s title bid was dealt a hammer blow due to a horrifying accident just a third of the way through the season but he fought back from injury very well and concluded the year third in the standings with seven wins and seven other podiums.
Businessman Ritter, who resides in Switzerland, joined TCR after the opening race meeting of the 2009 Ginetta G50 Cup and really started to come into his own as the championship progressed, securing a best result of fifth place, one other top six and 13 further top 10 finishes on his way to 11th overall in the driver standings.
Aside from his experience in Ginettas, the 38-year-old has also competed in several other saloon car categories in the UK over the last few years including the Kumho BMW Championship, the Max-5 Championship and the Volkswagen Fun Cup.
The announcement of Breeze and Ritter for TCR’s 2010 Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup campaign comes hot on the heels of the team’s recent confirmation that Mike Robinson and Sam Tordoff have both returned to the West Midlands squad for the 2010 ELF Renault Clio Cup.
Seats are still available with TCR in both G50 Cup and Clios therefore interested drivers are invited to contact team principal Lee Brookes on 0121 5561999 or by email to p1tcr@aol.com
