With interest high in the new 2010 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge series, one of the first to sign up was race rookie Peter Smallwood, the Towcester resident having only made his race debut in the final round of the Porsche Open series at Silverstone last October. With a 996 GT3 prepared by Silverstone-based Fearnsport, Peter is looking forward to the challenge that the exciting GT3 series presents.
“It will be my first ever full season of motorsport,” says 44-year-old Peter, “and I am really looking forward to it. The 996 GT3 is great to drive – we start testing properly with Fearnsport in March so I can get up to speed.
“It might seem unusual to be making my race debut at this level, but I felt it was now and never and enjoyed my first race with the Porsche Club at Silverstone last October.”
“Peter is exactly the sort of competitor the GT3 Cup Challenge is intended for,” says series co-ordinator Steve Kevlin, “somebody who approaches his competition in a thoughtful manner and is looking for what we consider to be close, competitive, yet fun racing. Peter made a great start to his motorsport with his first race with us last year and we are confident he will do well in 2010.”
The 13-race series kicks off at Brands Hatch on April 4th, and provides a home for racing GT3 Porsches. Sampling the UK’s major circuits, plus a trip to Zolder in Belgium in May, the series finale is a unique triple-header meeting at the full Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in October – a chance for drivers to really get to grips with the Northamptonshire venue’s full layout.
