The Drivers

The Class of 2010 includes trio of drivers returning for their sophomore season, the defending SummerRegional Race Series champion and representatives from five different countries challenging a strongAmerican contingent for this year’s title.

Ashley Freiberg and Dennis Trebing, currently 1-2 in the Southern Race Series standings, along withIsaac Lyons return for the second seasons in the Skip Barber National. Among the drivers making theirNational debuts are 2009 Skip Barber Summer Race Series champ Nick Andries, 2009 ELF Renault ClioWinter Cup champ Daniel Lloyd, Karting Scholarship Shoot-out winner Mukul Sud, Skip BarberRegional Race Series driver Scott Anderson and Brandon Newey, son of renowned race car engineer andIZOD IndyCar Series team owner Steve Newey.

After testing the waters in the Skip Barber National during the 2009 season, MAZDASPEED MotorsportsDevelopment drivers Spencer Pigot and Felix Serralles will challenge for the 2010 title after winning thebig scholarships at this year’s Karting Scholarship Shoot-out, funded by Mazda and the FIA Motor SportSafety Development Fund.

The Skip Barber Cup, a separate championship for drivers 26 years of age or older who are not eligiblefor the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder, makes its debut in 2010 with a quartet ofdrivers entered for Homestead; Al Carter, John Giddens, Jim Norman and Brian Skinner. Carter is pullingdouble-duty this weekend, running both the Skip Barber National races and the Grand-Am ContinentalSports Car Challenge for Stephenson Motorsports.

Since 2006, Skip Barber National Champions have continued their racing careers through theMAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder. 2009 Skip Barber National Champion Connor DePhillippi will race for JDC Motorsports in this year’s Star Mazda Championship courtesy MAZDASPEEDMotorsports Development. Other drivers with Skip Barber Racing School ties include 2007 Atlanticchampion and IZOD Indycar driver Raphael Matos and 2009 Atlantic champion and Rolex Sports CarSeries drier John Edwards.

The Schedule

The 2010 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda schedule visits seven legendary NorthAmerican race circuits and marks the first time that the entire schedule will support top level racing,racing in support of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and American Le Mans Series.
