Walker steps up to Superleague challenge

Jerseyman James Walker will take on the challenge of retaining Liverpool Football Club’s Superleague Formula by Sonangol title as he joins Atech Grand Prix for 2010.  Walker’s signing completes Atech Grand Prix’s entry into the series, joining the recent announcement of Yelmer Buurman (AC Milan) for the Silverstone-based outfit.

The new partnership sees Walker reunited with Team Principal David Hayle, who raced together in British Formula 3 a few years ago. “On a personal level I’m very happy to be working with James again, as we enjoyed a close and successful relationship together in Formula 3,” said David.

“And on the business side, I know he’s more than capable of taking race wins and challenging for the title. We won it last year with Liverpool FC and Adrian Valles and with the pairing of Yelmer and James now confirmed I’m certain we have a strong line-up with which to defend that title.”

The former World Series by Renault racer is no stranger to Superleague Formula, having won the final race of 2008 for Borussia Dortmund as well as subbing for Rangers FC at the Nürburgring earlier in the year. Walker too is relishing the prospect of working with the team with whom he enjoyed success in F3.

“Knowing David well and now having spent a couple of days with the team this week I can see how committed they all are about making sure we have what we need to win and that is all we are interested in. After winning the title last season, Liverpool FC and the team will understandably have high expectations this year and I hope I can continue that winning performance in 2010.”

The 2010 Superleague Formula by Sonangol has been extended to 12 rounds for 2010 and features two rounds in the UK including the opening round at Silverstone over Easter weekend 3/4 April.
