Round 1: Auto Trader Easter Thunderball, 2nd-5th AprilIt was business as usual for Pro Modified star Andy Robinson when the 2010 MSA British Drag Racing Championship began at Santa Pod Raceway on Easter Monday. The reigning MSA Champion started 2010 in the same dominant form that he displayed at the end of 2009, although his eventual victory also owed something to good fortune. Chilly and gusty weather made matters difficult for everyone. The cool air and low corrected altitude produced plenty of horsepower and torque, but the cold and windswept track surface made for poor traction; the result was vicious tyre-shake for all.Robinson was the only driver to get a grip on conditions during qualifying, while Graham Ellis, learning the intricacies of a new clutch system, improved his performance during the eliminations. When the pair met in the final Robinson shook and swerved fiercely, shutting off to a slow 7.49s/148mph and apparent defeat. However, Ellis was already kicking himself for a redlight start for which he was disqualified, negating an otherwise unbeaten 6.60s/219mph run. Results - Quarter-FinalGraham Ellis, 6.490s / 220.15mph def.
