Round 3: UTV Drive Circuit of Ireland National Rally, 3rd-4th April The 2010 Hankook MSA Northern Ireland Stage Rally Championship continued with the UTV Drive Circuit of Ireland National Rally, which was won by a delighted John Waring. It was Kenny McKinstry, however, who dominated much of the event, pulling out a lead of almost six minutes on daughter Emma by the end of day one as several of his rivals hit trouble on the wet and muddy stages just north of Newry.Day two brought drier conditions, allowing the Escort Mk2 of John Waring to up the pace and overhaul the younger McKinstry for second place. However, the final stage of the event spelled disaster for McKinstry Snr, who retired after an oil leak in his Subaru caused a small fire.John Waring thus inherited the lead, which he maintained to record a 12.3-second victory over McKinstry Jnr. The Toyota Corolla of Raymond Conlon rounded out the podium places in third.Further down the leader board, Cyril Doherty led home the Group N contingent with sixth overall, less than three seconds clear of Trevor Ferguson’s N12 Impreza.Having managed eighth overall and with Derek McGarrity competing in the International section of the event, 21-year-old Stuart Biggerstaff now shares the championship lead.Results1 John Waring / Alan Whyte (Ford Escort Mk2) - 2h11m31.1s 2 Emma McKinstry / Kenny Hull (Subaru Impreza WRC) - 2h11m43.4s3 Raymond Conlon / Darren McCague (Toyota Corolla) - 2h12m04.9s4 Mervyn Wedlock / Damien McCabe (Ford Escort Mk2) - 2h13m32.3s5 David Armstrong / John Rowlands (Ford Escort G3) - 2h13m55.1s6 Cyril Doherty / Graham Henderson (Subaru Impreza N12) - 2h14m52.7s
