YOUNG DRIVERS CHALLENGED TO TEST THEIR SKILLS
As the JDM Allstars European Drifting Championships gathers pace for April 17th and 18th at the Trafford Centre, an exciting amateur competition has been unveiled. Never seen before in the UK, Road Safety for North West will be running a hands-on driving experience competition for visitors to the event in the ‘SAVE IT FOR THE TRACK’ ZONE.
Young drivers from across the North West are expected to flock to the ZONE and check out cutting edge Vision Racer Simulator pods where they will be able to test their metal on the latest driving computer games. Also in the SAVE IT FOR THE TRACK ZONE will be ‘control karts’ where driving skills will be tested to the limit around a specially designed car control track. The three highest scoring male and female drivers of the day will go through to the Championship ‘drive off’ leading to a Ladies and Men’s winner.
Explains Linda Sanderson of Road Safety for North West: “One of the greatest killers of young drivers on our roads is a lack of experience and this is a unique and innovative way of learning to control a car in a totally safe setting. The winners of our competition will earn a few laps of honour riding shotgun on the main track with the North West’s top European Drifting driver, Ian Harrison. The competition will be a lot of fun with a great top prize, but everyone taking part will also learn some very valuable hands-on driving skills, recognise their limitations and fully realise the dangers of drifting or racing anywhere other than a proper race track.”
Niall Gunn, Director or JDM Allstars said: “There is a time and a place for performance and control driving and we aim to make this a point and echo the message SAVE IT FOR THE TRACK. Road safety has always been a high priority for our professional scale events and this is a great way of getting the point across to all our fans – a high percentage of which are young motorists.”

In Britain 1,200 young drivers between the age of 17 and 24 are killed or seriously injured on the roads every year. This represents 52% of all UK road deaths but this age group only represents 16% of driving license holders.
