New Silverstone GP Circuit to showcase world-class GT racing

Silverstone Supercar, 1-2 May, to provide first action on new GP Circuit

Silverstone  is  preparing  to  host  its  first major international event on the new Grand Prix Circuit,  in  just  over  three  weeks  time.  Featuring  the  FIA  GT1  World  Championship, Silverstone’s Supercar weekend will take place on 1-2 May, christening the new section of tarmac. As the finishing touches are being made to the new track layout (3.666 miles in length), British driver Darren Turner, who drives for the GT1 Young Driver AMR team and lives a short distance from Silverstone, comments, “I think all of the drivers will be looking forward to trying out the new curves at Silverstone! A lot of thought has gone into the design of the layout and it’s great for GT1 World that we will be the first major championship to sample the new Silverstone. “As a British driver I know Silverstone like the back of my hand so it will be interesting to experience the new section; working out the lines and its subtleties and how it flows into the rest of the track.

Aston Martin is historically very strong at Silverstone. Although we have new regulations and a new championship I hope the package remains competitive and we can get a good result.” Along with plenty of on-track action, this is the fans’ first chance to get a glimpse of the highly anticipated Arena Complex – which is the main feature of Silverstone’s new Grand Prix Circuit. In addition to the FIA GT1 cars, the Silverstone Supercar event will also feature the FIA GT3  European  Championship,  GT4  European  Cup,  and  the  Cooper  Tires  British  F3 International  Series.

All  categories  will  be  racing  on both days (1-2 May), with the FIA GT1  World  Championship  holding  a  qualifying  race  on  Saturday  afternoon  and  its Championship race on Sunday. Winners from this race will also be presented with the prestigious  Royal  Automobile  Club  Tourist  Trophy,  which  has  a  long  and  illustrious history and has been won a record seven times by the legendary Sir Stirling Moss. This year’s FIA GT1 World Championship, the pinnacle of GT racing, features a multi- million  pound  grid  made  up  of  iconic  and  prestigious  marques  such  as  Aston  Martin, Corvette, Ford, Lamborghini, Maserati and Nissan.
