Ashley Freiberg clinches 2009-2010 Skip Barber Southern Race Series championship

Ashley Freiberg became the first woman in the history of the Skip BarberRace Series to win an overall championship when she clinched the Southern Race Series title this pastweekend at Sebring International Raceway. The 18-year old from Homer Glen, Ill. posted six wins and 10podiums on her way to the title, besting runner up Dennis Trebing by 16 points in the final standings.Freiberg finished the season strong with a fourth and her sixth win of the season.

Ashley Freiberg picked up 10 podiums (including 6 wins) on her way to the titleThere is no rest for the champion as Freiberg heads to Virginia International Raceway the weekend ofApril 23-25 for Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2010 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda,where she currently sits seventh in the championship.

Ashley isn’t the only member of the Freiberg family to pick up a championship this past weekend as herbrother Brian clinched the 2009-2010 Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge Winter Tour title atSebring.
