Britain’s most successful Rotax team steps in to support local clubFootball fans are familiar with calls to ‘Support your local club’ - but it is a phrase rarely heard in karting. Now however, Sheffield’s Strawberry Racing is proud to buck that trend by announcing a deal with South Yorkshire Kart Club.Based at the legendary Wombwell circuit near Barnsley, SYKC boasts a long list of members who went on to achieve great things - including six-time World Champion Mike Wilson. Explaining how the deal came about, Strawberry Racing Team Manager Warwick Ringham says, “Lots of people follow big football teams, but have little or no loyalty to their local club. It’s the same in our sport, but we ignore grass roots karting at our peril because this is where the champions of tomorrow cut their teeth and learn their craft. “With people feeling the continued effects of the recession, we wanted to help South Yorkshire Kart Club in a practical and worthwhile way. That’s why we’re now sponsoring the Mini, Junior and Senior Rotax classes with sets of tyres for these categories at each monthly race meeting. They’ll be put into a free raffle, so that even a novice in their first race meeting has the same chance of winning them as a driver with years of experience.” After launching its new Cream Racing Engines division, Strawberry will also provide end of year prizes to the club in the form of vouchers.“The total value of these per class is £2,000 and will allow the recipients to take advantage of Cream’s state-of-the-art servicing, official sealing and dyno-testing facilities.” He adds “Wombwell is a cracking little track and everyone at the club is really friendly and helpful.
