Jelley returns to Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Stephen Jelley will return to Porsche Carrera Cup GB with Team Parker Racing this season after concluding a late deal to contest a full season in the latest 450bhp 911 GT3 Cup cars.Jelley, a double race winner during the last Carrera Cup weekend of 2010, had planned to graduate into the Le Mans Series with the Parker team, but when those plans faltered he quickly arranged a Carrera Cup programme with Stuart Parker’s team. He will now shake down his new car at Brands Hatch tomorrow (Tuesday 29 March) in readiness for the opening two races over the weekend (2/3 April).“The LMS is still an option for later in the season as the dates don’t clash,” explained the Leicester racer. “But the best thing for my career is to be racing and the Carrera Cup is a great championship. I feel part of Team Parker Racing and it is good to racing with them. I fully expect to be fighting at the head of the championship.”Despite having less pre-season testing than his rivals, Jelley says that he should be ready for the opening weekend. “I had a mega result at Brands at the end of last season so I’m confident of a good result. It was important to run the car this week as I’ve not driven a race car since the end of last season. I just want to get the car run in and knock the dust off.”Team boss Parker is delighted to have confirmed the former BTCC race winner in his team. “We were aiming at the LMS with Stephen but due to unforeseen circumstances that hasn’t happened. So the logical thing was to do another year of Carrera Cup and Stephen’s really up for it. He was one of the strongest contender s at the end of last season and its unfinished business for him.”
