Sensational Start To Donington Weekend For Al Harthy

Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship front-runner Ahmad Al Harthy made an outstanding start to the second weekend of the 2011 season at Donington Park today, Thursday, 14th April, by setting the second fastest Pro-Am 1 Class time during official testing at the East Midlands track.Heading into the third and fourth rounds of the season, which take place this Sunday, 17th April, the Oman Air Racing Team driver is clearly in sensational form. Lapping the 1.98-mile track with a best time of 1m07.588 seconds (105.41mph), the Muscat 29-year-old ended the day less than four 10ths of a second away from the outright pace.As if his pace alone wasn't impressive enough, the Oman Air, Nawras, National Bank of Oman, Brand Oman, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs and Oman Ministry of Tourism backed racer was quicker than reigning Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion Tim Harvey, multiple race winner Michael Caine and the winner of round two at Brands Hatch, Stephen Jelley."Everything went really well today, I'm very happy with our pace and to finish ahead of so many of the big boys is a fantastic feeling", said Ahmad, "The track was very tricky, it was very unpredictable and quite slippery, but I worked hard with the team to find a good set-up that suited me and then we built on that. We have to keep this momentum now, if we can then it could be a great weekend."The Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship competitors have a day's rest tomorrow before all of the action resumes at Donington on Saturday, 16th April, with qualifying for the weekend's races taking place at 14.15.Round three of the 2011 season is expected to get underway at 09.20 on Sunday, 17th April, with round four scheduled to follow at 15.05. Live coverage of the second race will be screened in the UK on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4, and also on the ITV4 HD channel, while the action can also be viewed globally online at www.itv.com/touringcarsProvisional 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship 'Pro-Am 1' Standings (after Rd2):1st Jonas Gelzinis, 16pts; 2nd Derek Pierce, 11pts; 3rd Ahmad Al Harthy, 7pts
