Lloyd Stars With Second Fastest Time On VW Debut

Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup rookie Daniel Lloyd made a huge impact on his championship test debut at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben in Germany this week - the British teenager ending the officially timed two-day outing a fantastic second fastest overall out of a total of 24 runners. Marking the true start of the 19-year-old's first season of competition in Europe, the Huddersfield racer began the test on Tuesday, 12th April, building up his pace, eliminating some understeer in the car and getting adjusted to the approach required to extract the most from his 2.0-litre Scirocco. On day two, Wednesday, 13th April, he ran at the front throughout, setting the second quickest time in two of the three sessions and rounding-out the test second fastest overall - a tremendous debut and a great fillip with just over a fortnight remaining until the opening race of the 2011 season. "It's been great, really good, and I'm over the moon to have ended the two days second fastest", said Daniel, "We were in the top four in every session on day two, and second quickest in two of them, so it couldn't really have gone much better. I've really enjoyed my first experience of the Scirocco and I love Oschersleben. It's awesome, one of the best tracks I've ever driven. "The car took quite a bit of getting used to, it moves around a lot and you have to be very hard on the brakes to get the most out of it. We looked at the data on Tuesday night though, saw what we needed to do, and improved massively on the second day. I have to say a big thank you to my manager Tim Sugden for his input, he really helped me move forward!" For his maiden season in VW Sciroccos, Daniel will compete in the Junior Cup of the environmentally conscious pan-European championship. Running as a two-tier category with 'Pro' and 'Junior' drivers, there is also a non-scoring division for 'Legends'. In 2010, notable stars such as former World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz and multiple Le Mans 24 Hours winner Derek Bell ran as guest entries. Round one of the 2011 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup season will take place at the home of the German Grand Prix, Hockenheim, just over two weeks from now on Friday, 29th April, and Saturday, 30th April, as support to the DTM Championship. Live coverage of the race action will be screened in the UK and across Europe on digital satellite and cable channel Motors TV.
