Al Harthy Qualifies Second In Pro-Am 1 At Donington

Ahmad Al Harthy will start rounds three and four of the 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship from second in the Pro-Am 1 Class after a typically strong performance during qualifying at Donington Park Saturday, 16th April.

Following on from a superb run at the Leicestershire venue during pre-event testing on Thursday, the 29-year-old Omani delivered once again in today's all-important 30-minute qualifying session to post a best time of 1m08.154 seconds (104.53mph).

His renowned consistency also meant the Oman Air Racing Team driver will begin the second of tomorrow's two races from second in Pro-Am 1 as well thanks to a lap of 1m08.169 seconds. Ahmad was disappointed not to have been quicker still but traffic problems were prevalent throughout. "We're obviously very happy to be second fastest in qualifying but I'm not quite as satisfied with the pace overall, we had quite a lot of traffic today which did affect several laps", said the Oman Air, Nawras, National Bank of Oman, Brand Oman, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs and Oman Ministry of Tourism supported racer.

"As ever, the team did a great job with the car though and we know from the performance we produced during testing that we can run very good pace and have two strong races. We need to make a good start, stay out of trouble and hopefully we'll take a couple of podiums." Round three of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship will begin the day's action at Donington Park, Sunday, 17th April, at 09.20 with round four following at 15.05. Live coverage of the second race will be screened in the UK on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4, on the ITV4 HD channel and online at itv.com/touringcars
