Atech Reid takes Formula Renault pole at Donington

Atech Reid will start from pole position for round four of the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship at Donington Park.

Cypriot teenager Tio Ellinas set the fastest time in the second session by just over one-tenth of a second to give himself and the team their first pole of the season. Meanwhile, his young team-mate Oscar King will start both races from tenth position on the grid. Tio will also start the opening race of the weekend from the front row, despite a late spin in the closing laps of the session which stopped him from going for a faster lap. He was also frustrated not to get the best out of his tyres and knows he could have gone faster. Oscar was left disappointed to be starting from the fifth row after spending most of the previous day in the top four during testing.

Tio Ellinas: "The first session was a little bit of a bad session for me as I didn't really get enough from the tyres in the final laps and then ran wide too. Front row is good for the first race though and I can push hard from there. We made a change to the car for the second session and it made a difference. I was able to push a lot harder and pole position is obviously great. I'm hopeful I can get away well and stay ahead during the race," he said."

Oscar King: "It's very disappointing to be tenth for both races. Driving-wise I felt okay, but the speed just wasn't there. It's frustrating as I was right on the pace up until the end of testing yesterday when I missed out on a really good run on new tyres. I think my race pace will actually be fine, it's just annoying to be starting this far back. Any places I have to make up will probably come in the first few laps."

Team Principal David Hayle: "Tio was quickest in both practice sessions earlier so we knew the time was there for qualifying. He was unlucky at the end, running wide at the Old Hairpin. It meant his session was effectively over in terms of going for pole. He made up for it in the afternoon though and if he can get a good start in both races he should be gone. Oscar struggled a little bit and just needs more time and to get used to qualifying, but he is tenth for both races and will be able to move up from there with a good start. It should be a good day for us tomorrow."

The two 16-lap races take place at 10:05 and 15:45 .
