New Team joins the V8 Utes for Round 2
A new team will be joining the V8 Utes for Round 2 of the Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series, protected by Armor All. Fifteen students from West Coast Institute of Training will team up with a number of V8 Ute teams and officials, to gain valuable experience in the motorsport industry.
West Coast Institute of Training provides students with the necessary skills to enter the motorsport industry. The students are either currently completing their certificate two in Motorsport, or are third year apprentices. Motorsport is a team sport therefore it is vital for team members to work together under pressure to ensure the best performance on and off the track.
West Coast Institute of Training Motorsport lecturer Vaughn Brewer is excited about the opportunity to work with the V8 Utes.
"We are definitely excited to be involved. We've competed in Mini Challenge before where we struck up a friendship with Brendan Cook who asked us if we could supply a pit crew for the Perth round of this years V8 Ute round. From there we have made contact with fifteen teams who have all agreed to take on our students. Work experience in Motorsport is something that you can't simulate in a classroom, and what better place to gain experience than at one of Australia's premier events."
Teams will not be the only ones to benefit from the assistance of the West Coast Institute of Training. V8 Ute officials will have the help of two highly experienced lecturing Staff to provide assistance in the roles of Technical Support and Operations. In this win-win situation, both parties will have the opportunity to gain a wealth of new knowledge.
"It is great to be able to give something back to the industry when the opportunity comes up. This is a very worthwhile programme and not only does it help the students gain valuable experience, it also gives our teams extra legs on the ground when most teams won't take a full complement of staff, due to the long haul for the round." explained SPHERIX'S Bill West, category manager of the V8 Ute Series.
The V8 Utes head to Barbagallo Raceway next in Perth for Round 2 of the Series 29 April - 1 May. This will be only the second time that the V8 Utes have visited Perth, with Grant Johnson taking out the round win in 2008. After round one on the streets of Adelaide, David Sieders holds a two point advantage over Ryal Harris and Chris Pither in the 2011 Enzed Drivers Championship. While in Rookie of the year, Ryan Hansford is leading the way.
