Max Chilton confident after final pre season test

Max and the Carlin team had a successful two days testing at the Barcelona GP track this week, the final test sessions before the start of the main series.

In consistent, dry conditions they worked on a combination of set-ups for outright pace as well as race set-ups to deal with the new Pirelli tyres that the teams will be using in 2011.

On the first day Max was consistently quick, ending up with the 8th fastest lap time. The second day was spent primarily working on longer race runs and Max still had his Aon and digdeep sponsored car inside the top ten.

“That’s the target,” he commented at the end of the two days. “I aim to be in the top ten all the time on pace and we’ve achieved that, so I’m happy. I was particularly pleased with my new tyre run on Tuesday morning, which put me in the top three at the time and also the pace in our longer runs on Wednesday. I’m confident that I can compete at the front end of the grid this year and hopefully get the podium finishes that we’re aiming for.”

The first races of the GP2 Championship will take place at the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul on the 7th and 8th May.
