East Coast Racing at Oulton Park, Race 1

After struggling during the qualifying session at Oulton Park the East Coast Racing riders Lee Johnston and Gary Johnson secured two solid results in the first Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race. Lee gained fifth place and Gary got 10th in the 12-lap race today after qualifying in 12th and 13th place for today's race.

After a frustrating qualifying session Lee ended up in a low 12th place but was eager to get a good start and run a good race. The practice starts he had during the week paid off as the young Irishman was sixth after the first lap. After avoiding an incident early on involving Jimmy Hill, which allowed the front runners to break away Lee was unable to stay with them and had to sit in sixth place, he made a move on Luke Mossey mid way through the race to take fifth.

Lee commented "Thankfully the practice starts I went and testing during the week worked, we got ourselves to an old airfield and got to test some starts after Brands as I really struggled there. We struggled a bit in qualifying with set up as Oulton is such a physical circuit and I knew I would have my work cut out come the race. Avoiding the crash lost me some time and the three leaders were able to bridge a gap on us, I was fighting hard to try and make up some time but I had to settle for fifth. I'm pretty happy and really looking forward to the race tomorrow and starting higher up on the grid."

Gary got a reasonably start but opted for a different set up for the race which did not fall into place and work how he was hoping it would. He said "I made some changes after qualifying for the race but I totally made the wrong choice and it did the opposite to what I was hoping it would so we have to change things back slightly. Thankfully I've moved up a row for the race tomorrow and we're hoping we might be able to get ourselves a better result. I'm a bit gutted but it's still points in the bag and just got to move forward and get my head into gear for tomorrow afternoon."
