15-year-old Lukoil supported driver Sergey Sirotkin becomes youngest ever Russian to take victory in International Formula race...
RACE ONE - 2nd POSITIONThe Muscovite began Saturday's race from 5th position on the grid and was in 3rd approaching the first corner, from there Sergey immediately pulled a daring manoeuvre into Valencia's very tight first turn, going around the 'outside' of the two leaders and leading by the exit. The Jenzer team driver led the first half of the race, defending hard until the experienced 19-year-old Niederhauser finally managed to power past on the start finish straight with a perfect slipstream. Later in the race rain began to fall, resulting in a severe lack of grip, Sirotkin was just preparing to mount a strong challenge for the lead when they decided to red-flag the event resulting in 2nd place finish.
RACE TWO - 1st POSITION & FASTEST LAPBeginning the race from 4th on the grid, Sirotkin gained yet another strong start and was 3rd by the first corner, going into turn two the Russian made another bold move diving past Sofyan into 2nd position. In the early laps Sergey was beginning to close the gap to leader Ghiotto, who sadly received a drive-thru penalty for incorrectly re-assuming his 2nd place grid position following a spin on the warm-up lap. That decision left Sergey in 1st, subsequently taking a three-second Victory & Fastest Lap, thus completing a strong weekend and European Formula Abarth debut Championship event (supported by Ferrari's Young Driver Academy).
SERGEY SIROTKIN:"A good weekend with some proper and very close racing, especially in the starts. We have been improving the car and I have been improving myself, we are gradually getting to the position we need to reach but still have more work to do. I'd like to thank my new partner Lukoil for their support, I am really glad I could reach this result for them, and of course my team Jenzer Motorsport. I am already looking forward to the next race at Varano in two weeks time!"
